“According to the Webster Dictionary, Moral Hazard is the possibility of loss to an insurance company arising from the character or circumstances of the insured. An example of this would be having a house insured versus not insured. If I’m buying a house and decide not to get home insurance, then it is expected that a loss will happen. To prevent loss I would spend money on security cameras and alarms to prevent loss from happening while showing extra care. However, if my house is insured then I am less careful with burglaries because there is no longer an incentive to be attentive. The house is fully covered so at the end of the day I am not losing anything. Due to this case, the insurance company will undergo a loss and the standing of a moral hazard appears. I agree with moral hazard because there are pros and cons to everything in life. Moral hazards simply just lay out the ethical part of it.
Health determinants are split up into five main categories that highly influence “health”.
Social: encompasses economic and social conditions that influence people and communities. This category is shaped by education, occupation, and income. A couple of examples would be someone’s social support or culture.
Genetics: this is all based on someone’s genetic history due to their family line. An example would be chronic illnesses that run such as cancer or hyperthyroidism.
Behavior: is based on someone’s social patterns. This can pertain mainly to habits acquired. An example would be if someone drinks socially or someone who quit smoking.
Environmental: this can resemble the pollution in the air, mold or fungus nearby or occupational hazards. For example, working in an oil field will have a lot more health hazards than someone working in an office.
Physical: this category is huge for most people. It is a major question asked when at a hospital or clinic. Are you healthy? What are your eating habits? Do you work out and how often? Knowing someone’s physical abilities can help when recovering from an illness.
Health equity according to the CDC is the opportunity to ‘attain their full health potential’ and no one is ‘disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of their social position or other socially determined circumstance. You can see health equity alter as you alter each determinant. If one goes up then your equity follows.
