Discussion Board – Chapter 2: 15 points
Due dates are listed on the course schedule.
The purpose of the discussion forum is to encourage students to discuss what they are learning in the course with classmates. You will be required to post your assignment for the week and respond to at least 1 other student’s post which has no replies.
Learning Activity Objective:
To illustrate the importance of the relativity of culture. To engage students in a discussion about the taken-for-granted aspects of “our” culture.
What to read: Chapter 2
Ferrante, J. (2016). Seeing Sociology An Introduction, (3rd Edition). Independence, KY: Cengage Publishing. ISBN-13: 9781305094369
What to write about:
Describe American culture. What makes us unique? What makes us who we are? Make sure to include at least 3 ideas in the form of a paraphrase and/or quote directly from your textbook reading.
Please note: Anything you post on the discussion board will be viewed by all of your classmates and your instructor.
Requirements:
1. Your Discussion Board writing must be at least 2 pages, double-spaced and typed. Please use Times New Roman, 12-point font size. You must also include a full end citation for sources used at the end of your writing. It should be cited in APA format.
2. You must use material from the textbook to support your ideas. You may paraphrase and quote as needed. Don’t forget to cite your source within your paper and as an end citation. For more details, visit the APA Guide tab to left of the screen.
3. Please save your post in .docx format, copy and paste the contents from word to discussion board, and submit in the DB Forum, on time. You must put the text of the document into the Discussions Message area. Posting only the link to the document is not acceptable.
4. Please read all classmates’ posts and reply to at least one classmate’s post which has replies. If all posts have replies, you can reply to posts that already have been replied to.
Directions for Discussion Board Submissions:
1. Create your post:
• Read the “What to write about” above.
• Write your post using material from the textbook as support.
• Save your document as a Word document (.docx) in your word processor.
• Select and copy your entire document after you have saved it.
• Click on Discussion Board link under the Learning Outcomes for the current chapter.
• Click on the Create Thread button.
• Type in a subject – for instance, Chapter 1.
• Paste your document (you copied above) in the Message Box.
Click on the browse computer button under Attachments and select your saved document.
• Click on the Submit button at the bottom or top of your screen.
2. Read other students’ posts.
3. Reply to at least one other student’s post. If all posts have been replied, or if you already replied to a post that has no replies, you may reply to posts that already have replies.

I will look to see how well you have read and interpreted the reading material, slides and support material and integrated the material into your writing.
2. Communication: how you say it
I will also assess your ability to communicate clearly with the instructor. This includes using correct grammar, using spell check, using complete sentences, writing logically (flows well), and using correct APA citations.
3. Collaboration: how you respond to your peers
Once you have uploaded your own post, please respond to one or more of your classmates’ posts. You may earn up to 5 points for your collaboration with other students.
